Being a big fan of the recently depleted CLEF 2 Factor Login in 2017 had me looking for a replacement. As much as I did not want too, being it was in use on so many client sites. One has to be careful when providing a service for a client to use.. even free, it can be a headache for all involved when you have to replace once or more times.
There are those like Google Authenticator, it’s very good but limited to 1 login user for Free.
The point of my article today is what we’re using on our website now in replace of CLEF.
Since we host our website, clients security is a daily process and checklist to make sure all websites we manage, host or have ourselves are running properly and securely.
Funny name, serious plugin!
You’d login to your WordPress website like normal using the User Name / Password or you can turn on one of the two options offered by UNLOQ which is to enter a time sensitive 6 digit number or receive a push notification to your android phone “click checkmark” on your screen – walla, your entered to your website.
I migrated to Unloq after Clef was discontinued. These folks have been diligent in fixing issues and improving the product. Totally recommended.
All issues that are resolved are immediately resolved by the helpdesk
I migrated a few domains from Clef after getting the invite to install JetPack.
Requesting users to have a wp.com account is a big NO!
So far the experience is pretty good. The setup is simple and I love the fact there is multiple options for the authentication and possibility to customize the login widget. Their pricing model is so far very friendly and I hope it will remain that way in a certain measure.
At the time of writing this, I’ve transitioned all 3 of my domains to UNLOQ ahead of the Clef shutdown. As sad as we all are to see Clef go, I was elated to give a relatively unknown plugin a try and discover it was as easy to use and compatible as Clef was.
I hope other people discover this after the Clef shutdown, because it’s absolutely heads + shoulders above the competition for 2-factor Auth, and I should know – I’ve tried them all!
I was happy using clef until it was shut down. I was trying different security plugins in that time. And now i found this security plugin gem! It is really easy to use and has a lot of extras which i really like! No hidden advertising just clear design and everything you need for a stronghold of security. thank you!
After deciding to add multi-factor authentication to my website and a little research, I came across these guys. Was a bit reluctant at first, but it’s really a great plugin. Setting up the account went smoothly, and the support team was super helpful and fast in answering to my questions. More websites should use it, for sure.
